Letter From the President
Communication is one of the cornerstones of any good relationship. I often speak of its importance with regard to Investor’s relationship with our broker partners. To foster better communication we are planning a handful of discussions in a number of cities with small groups of brokers to discuss the specifics of some of our products and services. You have told us that our communication has been good but that we need to communicate more frequently and in greater detail. This is one of the steps we are taking.
We have also significantly increased the number of individual broker visits from our underwriting teams this year. We hope you find these as valuable as we do and I invite you to tell us what has been effective about them and how they can be improved.
Thank you for your compliments about this newsletter. It was another step to keep you informed. We’ve posted the past editions on our web site at www.Investorsunderwriters.com and we hope you find this reference point useful. The web site is currently being enhanced to increase its functionality. We are also working to provide more frequent and specific communication that we will be introducing shortly.
Thank you again for your business, your support and your candid feedback. Your continuing insight has been invaluable in shaping Investors into the company that strives to earn your “first call and last look.”
Taxi – The Keys to Success
It is not surprising that Investors writes Taxi Liability business. Seventy-five years ago, Sam Markel was insuring some of the early modes of public transportation. In today’s insurance environment, taxis can be a very difficult product to write profitably. The nature of the business, geographic considerations, and the peculiarities of each insured contribute to this difficulty.
We have been successful because we have stuck to our original strategy of underwriting guidelines and selected territories, and because we go the extra mile to write an account profitably. Our long-range goal is to grow profitably and eventually be the premier market for Taxi Liability.
Whether it is primary or excess auto liability or general liability, we believe it is thoroughly worth the effort to propose a professional program and offer superior service.
Our hope is that our expertise in and dedication to the taxi business will help us continue to succeed for another 75 years!

2006 Top Producer Outing
IUM recently held its annual Top Producer Outing at the Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island Bahamas. This event was held to thank our largest producers for their dedication throughout the past year. It was also a great opportunity for our Underwriters and Producers to meet face to face.
Our guests enjoyed numerous fun activities such as golf, snorkeling with the stingrays, spa treatments and fun at the beach. The event was not entirely fun in the sun. We had business meetings and round table summits where we discussed how we are doing and where we need to improve. At our awards dinner we honored our top producers with beautiful crystal awards to thank them for their hard work and dedication.
We look forward to future gatherings and we hope to see you there.
