Letter from the President
All of us at IUM hope you all enjoyed your summer and are well on your way to planning for the remainder of the year and 2007! 2006 has been a great year here at IUM and Markel, thanks to your efforts and your tireless commitment to our partnership. Markel reported a 90% combined ratio on gross written premium of $1.3 billion through six months 2006. Thank you for your contribution to making 2006 a successful year thus far. We will continue to provide stability and financial security to you, our long-term partners.
Recently, we have been busy rolling out some new products. By now, you have heard of Markel’s new Outbreak Expense Coverage that provides coverage in the event your business is closed by a public official due to a covered contagion. We have received a significant amount of interest in this product and believe it provides great potential for many of your existing customers. Matt Hannay is our underwriting contact here at IUM (732-391-8858 or mhannay@markelcorp.com.) In addition, Sarah Gavlick will be assisting with all marketing efforts. Should you have questions or comments, please feel free to call Matt, Sarah, me or any other member of our underwriting team.
We are selectively offering a new Construction Wrap product through our Primary Casualty Division. This product will be offered for risks east of the Mississippi. You will be hearing more on this product’s launch in the near future!

A Word From Our Marketing Department
Almost through three quarters of 2006, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your feedback throughout the year as respects our newsletter and other pieces of communication provided by the Marketing Department. We encourage you to continue letting us know what is valuable and where we can provide additional insight or service.
I would also like to thank those producers who attended our 12th Annual Metedeconk Golf Outing. We couldn’t have asked for a better day and it was obvious that all who attended the event had a great time!
With a staff of three and almost a year under our belt, the Marketing Department at IUM has accomplished quite a bit. I wanted to introduce you to those folks within the Department who are responsible for its day-to-day operations. Mike Kazanjian/AVP has been with IUM for almost a year. Over that time, his focus has been on creating management reporting tools to better understand our books of business, designing and updating our website, researching various industry and product line opportunities and contributing to our monthly newsletter. Dana Kolmer, our Marketing Assistant, has been focusing on managing all of our producer events, formatting and distributing our publications, and maintaining our internal producer records. In addition to this, Dana also manages all administrative functions of our Department. Should you have any questions for the Marketing Department, feel free to contact any member of our team.
It is hard to believe that NAPSLO is right around the corner! IUM will have representation there from every product division. If you have not heard from us and are interested in getting together in Chicago, please contact our product divisions directly or myself, Sarah Gavlick at 732-450-8778. I will be happy to coordinate the meeting with the appropriate parties.
Lastly, I would like to mention that this October marks IUM’s 10th Anniversary! We have worked hard to become the company on which you can depend for quality service, underwriting expertise and timely communication. We would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to do so and for standing by our company throughout the years. As we plan for 2007, please continue to provide objective feedback. We need to hear your thoughts, both positive and constructive so that we may continue leading our company in the right direction.

IUM Charity Committee
Giving back to the local community and beyond has always been important here at IUM. We have a dedicated group of associates who take time to chose the charity, plan the charitable event and communicate that message to the company. Over 2006, IUM has raised money and gift items for several charities including the SPCA, NJ Blood Bank, March of Dimes, USO, Lunch Break, Riverview Medical Center, Michael’s Feat, and the Society for Leukemia & Lymphoma.
We have raised additional monies by sponsoring bake sales and 50/50 raffles for our associates. The reponse has been overwhelming. We have supported 10 charities and raised $1675 for those causes. Plans for the remainder of the year include sponsoring a needy family for the holiday season, as well as making holiday gift baskets for the homeless. We are proud of what we have accomplished for those in need or less fortunate than ourselves and will continue the progress we have made beyond 2006! Thanks to all of our associates who help to make this a success!
